10 Dance Volume 1 Review

10 Dance, by Inoue Satoh is a beautifully paced BL Ballroom Dance manga.

When you think of the BL Manga genre, you think of saturation and similar plots. I was very lucky to stumble upon 10 Dance.

Teen angst is very much a staple for many BL mangas, but it can be ad nauseum the countless rehashing of the same troupes. 10 Dance focuses on two adult men who are not in school but are competitors in the intense world of ballroom dancing.

Shinya Sugiki is the jet black haired Standard Dance professional.

Shinya Suzuki is the dirty blonde Latin Dance spitfire.

Sugiki is the more established of the Shinyas, he’s unassuming because it’s easy to peg him as the brute, luckily, he’s more of a charmer than a brute.

Suzuki is young, beautiful and full of talent. Suzuki is all heart but is unsure of himself and his place in the ballroom scene.

The Shinyas cross paths when Suzuki wants to enter the 10 Dance competition, but he needs to learn the other disciplines of dance. Who else but the master of Standard Dance to teach you how to tame your Latin moves?

With every lesson, they flirt and begin to relate to each other on a more intimate level. Their affection grows and the competition nears. We are perched on a pier watching these two ships grow closer.

If you enjoy a slow burn romantic comedy, then you will love 10 Dance.
